Had I not been an Educationalist then

Marketing Executive

When and why did you decide to take up education as your career?

I started by career after completing my B.E., but my passion was towards the teaching, so I decided to take up this noble profession in the year 1993. Since then held various post like teaching assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Head of the Department, Dean (Academic), & Principal.

As an educationalist, you are touching many human lives directly. Do you think educational institutions can play a significant role in overall development of students by encouraging them to take up co-curricular interests like Music, Art, Dance or Sports?

It is part and parcel of any human life to engage him/her in any activities apart from academic. To my knowledge any co-curricular practice will have good focus of mind and keep them more energetic through their life.

What are some of the most important initiatives related to co-curricular that you have taken in the institutions you have served?

All the above said – Cultural Feast for dance and musical (both solo and group)

Art for the interdepartmental event to motivate their skill.
Sports – house wise inside the college, zonal wise within the district, Anna University wise with in Tamil Nadu, if selected National wise.
Apart from this Photography club, Short movies, language skill, poet skill etc., to motivate their talent to come out before they go out of the college.

In the days when most people measure success only by academic score, how would you convey to the parents of your students that co-curricular education is not something to be looked down upon?

As our institution is for the undergraduate studies, the parents do not interfere in any of the activities, except parents of few girls may not permit them for state level competition because of safety reasons. However, our coordinators try to convince them.

If you were to suggest one major change in perspective of co-curricular education, what would that be?

Now a days from play school to college, I think all are taking care of co-curricular activities up to their possible level. Still, Government at both central and state levels have to take more initiative and allocate funds and encourage Government, Aided and Self-financing institution to participate.

Please let us know about some key achievements of your institution and/or your student(s) in MADS at national/international level?

1.    My student from Kerala is now a karnatic singer in his state.
2.    Another student is in our national kabbadi team.
3.    Last year student is now coach for Women hockey National team.

What are your personal interests in Music, Art, Dance or Sports and how do you continue to pursue them?

1.    Zonal player in basketball during my school day
2.    University player in table tennis in my college day.
3.    But know as an administrative / academician I am unable to concentrate in any events as mostly all days are working days for us.
