Had I not been an Educationalist then

Maybe a Dance Teacher

When and why did you decide to take up education as your career?

I am very much passionate about teaching, learning and going through with education. I felt that education would be a nice platform for me to utilize my interest. From 2012, I have chosen this as a career on a serios note.  I enjoyed all the administrative work.

As an educationalist, you are touching many human lives directly. Do you think educational institutions can play a significant role in overall development of students by encouraging them to take up co-curricular interests like Music, Art, Dance or Sports?

Cocurricular activities are as important as Education. Co-curricular activities are very much important for the students for their overall development. A child may be very bright at academics but at the same time s/he must also be able to address him/herself in front of the people on stage. It is the duty of the school, teacher and parents altogether to nurture the basic qualities in their children to excel beyond academics.

What are some of the most important initiatives related to co-curricular that you have taken in the institutions you have served?

I have made students to read books. Because it is all about making your mind conscious even if you’re sleeping. Reading habits improves vocabulary. We encourage children to create something good out of the waste materials to increase their productivity. We frequently conduct dance classes, library sessions, public speaking sessions, smart classes sports sessions, karate sessions and so on.

In the days when most people measure success only by academic score, how would you convey to the parents of your students that co-curricular education is not something to be looked down upon?

I have conducted a meeting on this topic with parents where I have made them understand that creativity is as important as literacy. Don’t take cocurricular activities as a separate entity.  We can make children learn alphabets but in order to make them pronounce each alphabet is when we have to take the children towards the cocurricular grounds. Hence, cocurricular activities are important to perform well in life.

If you were to suggest one major change in perspective of co-curricular education, what would that be?

Reading habit is what I have imposed on my students because it is what improves one’s personality from vocabulary ground to the presentation.  Reading habit will make you able to write well, speak well and present yourself very well.

Please let us know about some key achievements of your institution and/or your student(s) in MADS at national/international level?

What are your personal interests in Music, Art, Dance or Sports and how do you continue to pursue them?

Being occupied in a very hectic schedule, I somehow manage to take some time out and dance because I feel like my day isn’t completed if I haven’t danced. Not good enough in singing but I like listening to music. I love painting also but hardly I get time for it.  I will definitely buy a canvas when things get settled down.

Any other thoughts you may want to share.

I would want to give to the parents a message that don’t run after the percentage. Have faith in your child. Don’t stress them for academics because it is not everything. If your child is good at other things beyond academics, please push them further to pursue it. Percentage is not more than the life of your child.
