What's your success mantra?

Don't look back, we are not going there..

What were the hardships / hurdles you have encountered during your journey? How did you overcome them?

Life is all about overcoming hardships and hurdles. We never gave the hardships the kind of importance that it could bring us down. We always faced everything with grace and gratitude and here we are.

Success is incomplete without its share of setbacks. What advice do you give to others about handling the setbacks?

Do not hesitate to ask questions. Do not think this is the last thing we are doing. Life goes on and it comes with a package of good and bad things so just stay calm, let the time pass, try to encounter your problems and there is always a successful way out of every bad situation.

Do you think Music and its learnings can be helpful in life even if one does not want to consider it as a career goal?

Of course, we have not come across a single person who says s/he doesn't not like music. Above all, music is the healing, strength and power.

Who has been the main influencers in your journey & how?

Our parents are the ones. They struggled all their life in our upbringing as musicians. They would spend hours starving and waiting for our turn to perform when we were kids. They trained us in classical singing and launched us as kids performers back in those days and it was a huge hit.

Which was "that" moment when you considered yourself as "I Am The 1"?

We came from Ahmedabad 20 years ago and during our first Navratri event in Mumbai we were given CD's of few singers who were already established in Mumbai and we were told to sing their songs. We confronted and took a stand to sing our own songs and follow our own playlist. When we performed, the organizers appreciatingly came to us and exclaimed,  “You guys are the ones, the next big thing in Mumbai Navratri scene!”

Did you get any formal training in Music? Kindly tell us about it…

We are trained in classical singing from Gandharva Sangeet Vidyalay when we were kids..

Could you reflect on the importance of systematic training in Singing?

Preeti: Training is the most important part in singing but what is even more important is your own practice.Pinky : The more you practice, the better you will get, this applies to all the things. No matter what our mood is, for us it is always 'Sing'O'Clock'.

What are the pre-coaching essentials e.g. right age, mindset or anything else?

Preeti : Since we started at the age of 5 and 7 years, we think age is not a barrier but continuing the training and practicing with pure heart and soul is the key. Pinky : Mindset is in our control, if one wants to do something wholeheartedly, ensure that the world can't stop you from achieving it. Be dedicated to what you do.

Technology is changing the way people get trained in Music. What's your take?

It is helping a lot of people and we are happy the way they are taking up music. In our times we had to borrow audio cassettes or buy music and now people can listen to any song with just a click and this is a massive growth and reach technologically.

What qualities must one look for in a 'Guru' for training in Music?

Well that is something that the 'Guru ji' should find in us. If we have the quality and dedication to not to fail our Guruji then there is no looking back.

If you were to bring one big change in the way people get trained in Music, what would that be?

Music remains music, only change we can bring is stop using cuss words and respect goddess Sarasvati.

What do you suggest for better accessibility of Music training in remote parts of India?

Our government should have music schools just like they have girls school everywhere. People from music fraternity should come forward and teach the kids voluntarily and that should be the prior task.

Your piece of advice to parents and new generation especially when some people are sceptical about career in extra curriculum…

Education is very important and so is your talent. If one thinks that s/he can achieve something in the field of music then they should never stop and keep trying..

One thing which you feel you want to change from the past while you walk down the memory lane…

Past can never be changed. We must concentrate on Today to bring in a better tomorrow. Don't look back since it has already passed..

How can one identify & encourage talent in the family?

Always appreciate those who sing or dance or do some kind of art. Encourage and help them find a way up rather than making them feel useless.

Any other thoughts you want to share…
