Had I not been an Educationalist then

I would have been a defense personnel

When and why did you decide to take up education as your career?

I decided to become a teacher during my graduation. When I was in college,I got inspired by some of the teachers’ work ethics, the way they used to handle students and care about society. Hence, I thought if I become a teacher,I can also help society as teaching is a noble profession.

As an educationalist, you are touching many human lives directly. Do you think educational institutions can play a significant role in overall development of students by encouraging them to take up co-curricular interests like Music, Art, Dance or Sports?

Only the schools can do this because the period in which a child is in school, s/he treats the school as temple and teacher as god. If teacher guides in a right way and cocurricular activities are organised in well planned manner then definitely students will inculcate the values of being a good player, artist, etc.It is the duty of every institution to inculcate these qualities to the children. Cocurricular activities is the most important part of the education system.

What are some of the most important initiatives related to co-curricular that you have taken in the institutions you have served?

Learning by actually doing is what we believe in and implement to all our students. We make all our students including the staff members of school to sit for 10 minutes and meditate. It is very essential as it boosts concentration power, build leadership qualities, etc.

What are some of the most important initiatives related to co-curricular that you have taken in the institutions you have served?

Nowadays, every child is evaluated on the basis of his/her percentage. Many parents ask me about why there are so many cocurricular activities happen in our school and I simply ask them about what their child will do with 99% marks? There is no 100% suretyand consistencythat their child will get admission into IITs, IIMS and get a job in big MNCs. But if a child finds and develops his/her inborn talent of painting, singing or in any sport then s/he has much more broader opportunities to excel in future.

If you were to suggest one major change in perspective of co-curricular education, what would that be?

The current ratio of academics and cocurricular is 70:30 and I want it to be changed to 50:50 or may be 40:60 because cocurricular activities can help in academics and academics alone cannot help one prosper in MADS.

Please let us know about some key achievements of your institution and/or your student(s) in MADS at national/international level?

One of my students is selected in a news channel for singing. One student is been awarded by the petroleum minister of India for his artwork.

What are your personal interests in Music, Art, Dance or Sports and how do you continue to pursue them?

I have a very good interest in sports. I personally get involved with students when they are playing cricket football and volleyball. This encourages them a lot. I also encourage lots of Music activities in school.

Any other thoughts you may want to share.

Nowadays the parents completely rely on the education institutions, just like passing a parcel to someone. Students straight away go to the tuitions after school hours, they are not exposed to outside physical activities at all. How a person will be mentally strong if there is no physical activity? I request all parents to give their children an hour or two in a day where children can sit and do whatever activity they want on their own and not by any instructions of school teachers or tuition teachers.
