Had I not been an Educationalist then

Would have taken up any profession for survival but find a different way to serve the student  and teacher community, which is my passion

When and why did you decide to take up education as your career?

Education as career came later, first it was Education as passion which I followed.

As an educationalist, you are touching many human lives directly. Do you think educational institutions can play a significant role in overall development of students by encouraging them to take up co-curricular interests like Music, Art, Dance or Sports?

I always believe so. Education doesn’t merely means getting certified or graded brilliantly. Education is the overall development of the self, realization of the inner soul, exposure in the field of potentiality of the student.
Personally, I feel the name CO-CURRICULAR shouldn’t be used. Music, Art, Dance, Sports, Yoga etc should also be brought under the mainstream so that talent in any such areas is not considered less than the other subjects like Science, Mathematics, Languages etc.

What are some of the most important initiatives related to co-curricular that you have taken in the institutions you have served?

1. Conducted Inter School Kho-Kho tournament
2. Conducted CBSE Cluster 1 Kabaddi tournament
3. Used to celebrate all festivals and occasions of our country in the morning assembly as part of Cultural Activities with songs, dances, skits etc
4. Allowed students’ participation in the Inter school cultural competitions where our students were awarded many times

In the days when most people measure success only by academic score, how would you convey to the parents of your students that co-curricular education is not something to be looked down upon?

This is not the mistake of the parents, it’s the system. We all must change the system and then parents will be definitely convinced that excellence in any field has equal value.
Main Course status and degrees need to be awarded for MADS subjects also.
From Co-curricular tag, these subjects must be included in the main curriculum as specialized degrees.

If you were to suggest one major change in perspective of co-curricular education, what would that be?

Career guidance in different field of co-curricular education needs to be highlighted more. Full time classes should be available for Co-curricular education for students in general schools for students who wish to take up Music, Dance, Sports, Arts, Yoga etc as a career option.

Please let us know about some key achievements of your institution and/or your student(s) in MADS at national/international level?

Participation in CBSE National level sports tournament.

What are your personal interests in Music, Art, Dance or Sports and how do you continue to pursue them?

I have completed SANGEET VISHARAD in Classical vocal under Bhatkhande University, Lucknow.
Also completed Visharad in Rabindra Sangeet under Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, Kolkata.

Any other thoughts you may want to share.

Through this platform, I would like to spread awareness among students and parents for taking up career in Music, Art, Sports, Dance and also Yoga. This initiative should not be confined to only Private Schools. The students reading in Government Schools and specially those students who show less interest in studies should be provided with ample scopes for the field they are interested to. In this way, we can utilize all our future human resources to excel in their areas of interest.
