Had I not been an Educationalist then

Leadership Coach

When and why did you decide to take up education as your career?

I started my career in education in 2003. I chose this career because teachers can individually and collectively can bring about an improvement in the world and find personal and professional renewal.

As an educationalist, you are touching many human lives directly. Do you think educational institutions can play a significant role in overall development of students by encouraging them to take up co-curricular interests like Music, Art, Dance or Sports?

Co-curricular activities improve the learning experiences of students, help them identify and develop their inner talents and offer them an opportunity of thinking unusually and getting the innovative ideas of their own.

What are some of the most important initiatives related to co-curricular that you have taken in the institutions you have served?

In order to cater to the cultural, social aesthetic development of the child, celebration of festivals, organisation of exhibitions preparation of chart and models, write-up for school magazine, sports, graffiti, storytelling, celebration of English Week, competition of Spell Bee, music, dance, drama, street plays etc are included.

In the days when most people measure success only by academic score, how would you convey to the parents of your students that co-curricular education is not something to be looked down upon?

The school organises workshops for parents, invite parents to participate in co-curriculum activities, update the parents about the performance of their ward in these activities, hold many competitions for parents and honour the winners in the presence of the parents.

If you were to suggest one major change in perspective of co-curricular education, what would that be?

We must create meaningful co-curriculum experiences in higher education by balancing the learning modes of experience, reflection, conceptualization and experimentation.

Please let us know about some key achievements of your institution and/or your student(s) in MADS at national/international level?

Cricket               - National Level U-14, U-17, U-19
Basketball        - National Level
Martial Arts      - National Level
Swimming       - National Level
Athletics           - National Level

What are your personal interests in Music, Art, Dance or Sports and how do you continue to pursue them?

I have great interest in sports. I participate in sport activities like cricket, volleyball, swimming and also gym. I motivate the students to pursue them and also engage in sports activities along with them.

Any other thoughts you may want to share.

I believe that my role as a principal should be in shaping a vision of academic and co-curriculum success for all students, cultivating leadership in others and finding their true potential and upgrading themselves to be assets to the society.
